Matthew L. Brown

Biographical Synopsis of Superintendent Matthew L. Brown

Pastor Matthew L. Brown’s many years of experience as a key aid to the Mayor of the City of Buffalo, has served him well in developing a comprehensive vision that addresses the diverse needs of the people he is committed to serving. He recently retired from the city’s administration to devote his full attention to his local church ministry and national ministry obligations. He has diligently served the City of Buffalo for twelve years in a variety of capacities including: Special Assistant to the Mayor, Commissioner of General Services, Director of Intergovernmental Relations and most  recently, as Director of Communications for the Mayor’s office. Moreover, the city was privileged to have Brown serve as the Vice President of the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation (BERC). In that capacity, he was vitally instrumental in the administration of community development initiatives, to assist economically distressed neighborhoods in the city of Buffalo.

Brown began his tenure as pastor of Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. in 1996. He has been successful in establishing the ministry as a beacon of hope to countless individuals and families served by the organization. He aggressively challenges the notion that church exists simply for the proliferation of the local assembly, but rather views the church as the change agent; pointing the way to purpose, peace and prosperity for the community it serves.

Pastor Brown has proven his exceptional skills as a leader through the implementation and administration of strategic ministry and community initiatives. As an outgrowth of his commitment to investing in the community and the lives of its residents, he has established the Temple Community Development Corporation (TCDC). Through the TCDC, he consistently spearheads community events that serve the underserved and contribute to the development of the infrastructure of a healthy and stable community environment.

Brown, the consummate educator, has successfully established the Pentecostal Temple Bible Institute (PTBI). PTBI is an extension of Logos Christian College and Graduate Schools founded in 1978 in Jacksonville, Florida and is an independent educational ministry of the local church. Students are afforded the opportunity to increase their effectiveness in ministry and leadership, through participating in the course curriculum administered by the Institute.

In addition to his numerous responsibilities as pastor of Pentecostal Temple, Brown also serves as the Superintendent of the Trinity District, in the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, Western New York. Under his leadership, the Trinity District is a model for effective ministry in this region and throughout the country. His platform for leadership and service to God’s people extends far beyond his locale, into the national arena. He serves as the National Vice- Chairman of the Constitutional Convention of the Church of God in Christ and as a conference presenter for the National Leadership Conference held annually. Brown recently completed the Summer Leadership Institute at Harvard School of Divinity; a cutting-edge training program for clergy and leaders from across the country, who are involved in faith-based community and economic development.

Throughout his years of service to the church, the city and the community; Pastor Brown has solidified his reputation as an anointed teaching priest, an exceptional administrator and a gifted motivational speaker.

PASTOR'S PEN

This month our ministry continues it momentum towards God by pressing into the “third quarter” consecration. Summer has officially begun and we’ve concluded 180 days of prayer and fasting with deliberate intention to “get to the root of our conflict with God”.  Bible studies have been illuminating and edifying along with an incomparable worship experience!  Our ministry turns in a sobering way to unearth the deep issues that separate us from a victorious life.  Sin, no doubt is at the root of our collective struggle.  Sin disguised as selfishness (the flesh attempt to live apart from God) and its flesh patterns distract us from experiencing abundant life.

Our ministry is currently in a paradigm shift towards intentionally ensuring our children develop meaningful relationships with God.  Far too long we have made the gross assumption that physical attendance to church translates into relationship with God.  We challenge the notion that religion is relationship!    The Apostle Paul warns Timothy concerning the days of apostasy, and assures him the only way to combat that day is learning the scriptures.  The devil has declared war of the Christian family and has a full frontal assault on our children.  Their music, culture and communication is a complex language camouflaged in hip-hopism, the abnormal focus on sexual relations, rebellion and disobedience to authority and parental figures is astonishing.  The Christian church must respond to this attack and respond by dismantling the culture through the knowledge of scripture and creating an environment that allows children to be children again.

Our summer consecration will focus on pouring into our families.  Intentionally spending time with each other and regain a sense of wonderment and appreciation for families.  We’ve constructed an activities schedule in place of worship services that will put word in action and evangelism at the forefront of our reconciliation agenda.  Our multiple prong approach will be in-house fellowship, outside activities and special events for the summer.  We will discover the simple pleasures of “just being together” and remind our children that there is nothing more important than family.

As we battle the Devil for the souls of our children and ultimately the posterity of our faith; let me sound the alarm and implore every member and supporter of our community to rally for your children.   Let’s take back our children, love them to life instead of beating them to death.  There are enough negative images, sounds and relationships that are kids have experienced.  Our challenge is to show our children that a spirit-filled transformative nature of Christ is superior to a flesh-driven life.

Join us for another 90 days of fasting and praying until we are endued with power from on high.  We must demonstrate the power of the Holy Ghost in the life of a believer and church in order to win this generation.  Vision 20/10 is in full effect and our mission to bring people to Jesus must be much more than our intention…it must be our lifestyle!

Our summer worship schedule changes to 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday’s, and Friday Night Fun for Families begins at 7:00 p.m.

Stay in His face,

Matthew L. Brown
