Temple Community Development Corporation

TCDC - MISSION STATEMENT

Linking opportunities with under served neighborhoods through economic development, while re-constructing community consciousness through faith based leadership, resulting in revitalized cities as tangible expressions of the kingdom of God!

Intro/History:

The creation of the Temple Community Development Corporation is due to the vast need of the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ to diversify its operations and manage its growth.  The introduction of new venues to assist neighborhoods and communities through federal, state, and local governments requires that this faith based institution create a conduit for maximizing opportunities to empower the families and communities we serve. The Development Corporation will assist the faith-based institution in delivering critical services to the membership of the church and community.

Summary Statement:

We have created a conduit for maximizing opportunities to empower individuals, families and communities through TCDC.  Our Development Corporation allows us to successfully deliver services to the membership of the church, urban communities, underserved individuals and families; by partnering with other ministries, agencies, businesses and organizations committed to enhancing regional growth and stability. Our growing resource network of like-minded ministries and corporate partners assist in the creation, development and implementation of successful economic and community.

Objective Statement:

TCDC will revitalize our community through public education and information, civic leadership and economic development in addition to arts enrichment.  Our outreach activities will benefit in developing community capacity through direct service and collaboration with community stakeholders and other service agencies.

Bernard Justin Graves III Fund for Sick Children

What is The Justin Fund for Sick Children (JFFSC)?

The Justin Fund for Sick Children was established by Pentecostal Temple and its Development Corporation in memory and honor of Bernard Justin Graves III, a member of the church and an outstanding young man who passed away on January 27, 2005 after a prolonged heart condition.  The fund is set up to provide nominal cash grants to families for the purpose of assisting in mortgage payments, automotive expenses, travel and lodging costs that are incurred during the treatment phase of prolonged illnesses. The fund represents our lifelong commitment to the children, youth and families of our community.

This initiative reflects the qualities of Justin Graves: radiant optimism, quiet strength, focus, purpose and service to humanity.  Funds will be disbursed in the interest of sick children in Western New York upon the recommendations of the JFFSC Committee. The committee is comprised of Justin’s parents, clergy, members of Pentecostal Temple COGIC, social workers and intensive care unit nurses who provide direct and indirect care for children. Contributors to the fund will receive annual reports and disclosures of the fund’s activity and award recipients.

The JFFSC Committee establishes guidelines for selection, receipt and distribution of funds.

About Bernard Justin Graves III

Born to his beloved parents Bernard and Lisa, Bernard Justin Graves III was the embodiment of his name, “full of justice.” Justin epitomized the best qualities that could be found in any child. His optimism, strength of character and radiance could not be dimmed by his life’s temporary adversities. His love and devotion to his family served as the foundation for his tremendous influence on his peers and community.

Justin’s faith in Jesus Christ was an important part of his life and his firm commitment to ministry was evidenced by his willingness and eagerness to serve his church, his community and his peers. Justin was an honors student, author, entrepreneur, aspiring chef, blue stripe karate student and soloist. Justin lived a full and active life without complaint or regret. His legacy is one of showing others how to live with adversity without being defined by adversity. He taught us well.

Justin concluded his brief shining moment in life on January 27, 2005 after victoriously defeating life’s given odds over a long-standing challenge.
